Mama Nidorina Chibi Plushie
Link To Full Image
The second chibi Nidorina plushie I made. She's slightly wider than the other dolls, but this is intentional as she's slightly wider than most Nidorina anyhow. Being the second doll, I had figured the patterns to use out by now. The picture was taken in our flower "garden", some being real and others aesthetic filler.
Clay Figurine of Mama Nidorina
Link To Full Image
Made so I could say I had one. This predates the chibi plushies, and the official Nidorina objects I had weren't good enough (none of them can step to Mama Nidorina anyway). It looks better live, I wish I was better at taking pictures.
Nidorina "Nido-san" Chibi Plushie
Link To Full Image
I get what I want... when I make it, that is. The first of the chibi plushies. This isn't the first doll I've ever made, but the first with a sheer amount of details. Made from a velour blend and felt, with a polyester bow. She stands about 8 inches tall. Being the first doll, there was still some kinks to work out for later dolls.
The chibi series dolls are based from the Chibi-Chibi Nido dolls of Crane Crazy, although the eyes are more like Riri's. My sister arranged the doll and took the pictures. That explains why it looks better.
Charlotte Chibi Doll

The somber experiment has finally arrived! The deadpan look and the hair make this doll cute. My sister has one as well, but so do a few others around the world. Just how many times was Seven* duplicated? World chaos is afoot.
*Charlotte's real name.

You can tell this was written in promotion of the show. Dexter? Since Nidos didn't have an episode at the time, they had to resort to the in game information. But the way this card goes about it you would think Nidos were darn near legendary. Also, the lineart is kinda shakey on all these.

Do you see that? Her head is huge. Maybe it's the placement of the ears, but it's just so disproportionate compared to Sugimori's art. And that's considering the old cute fat version and the recent revision.

Here's the big head again. This is the worst Nidorina design ever, and this is the one they chose to market? My figurine is based off of the anime design and even it's created proportionately. Fire this artist.

Topps Pokemon Card - Nidorino Front

I dunno if it's intentional, or if even the official artists can't remember how to draw Nidos right, but there's been a lot of inconsistancy with the ears on the old art, and even in the show. Maybe in real life, all Nidos are unique, by spot count and ear-thorns. That's pretty cool, actually, but I doubt they were thinking about that (and if I asked, they'd just pull a "oh...oh yeah. Yeah. That's the thing we did").

You know your source material is paper thin when whoever wrote these had to pad them out with theories. Though, here's a highly interesting revelation. I dunno the credibility of the editorial, but read look at the "spikes shed" quip. Unless they were some kind of idiot who couldn't see the spikes on Nidoking's back, maybe they could put two (Nidoran's design) and two (final form's biology) together just by educated guess.

The figurine design is strange enough as it is (I tend to use the Burger King one for reference, a much better shaped head for one), but these do Nidoran no favors. The middle one clearly sold his soul to the dark side.
Nidoran Knockoffs. Again!

The backside of the middle one is so poorly constructed, you can still see where the pieces where supposed to fit together, and now it just looks like he's got air vents.

The Nido females get down and dirty. More like grody, they must've dropped them before the plastic cooled or didn't give them a coating of some sort. They came like this, and frankly, I don't wanna know where they've been. And the colors are pretty off, Nidoran's coming close.
Yeah, You're All Disgusting

See that yellow stuff around Nidoran's neck. Yes, you can actually still see the wonderful glue job they've done. Nice work, guys. I'll also tell you this, plastic figurines should not have a gritty texture. Like, ever.

Unofficial Nido Magnets

Got these in Chinatown. Of course, anyone could've made these, and they just filched artwork from an image search I'm sure (Nidoran Female isn't even the same quality as the rest of her evolutions for goodness sake), but they were cheap, and Nido, which equalled "gotta have". The cool thing about the store was that the magnets they were selling leaned towards Nido (like) favoritism, as they were only selling Nidos, Ratta fmaily, and Rhyhorn family magnets (with a one off Hypno, Golem, and Oak/Jenny/Joy/somebody else magnet). That coupled with the fact that most Chinatown wares cater to the first generation, and it's a shopping spree.

Hey look! Tomy finally made a new Nidorina figure that isn't modeled after the terrible anime art!... Just kidding! I made this because I really wanted to make a Tomy-style Nidorina figure modeled after the official Ken Sugimori art. She even balances perfectly in her stance ^^ Actual Tomy for comparison.

First, I did NOT make this. However, I do now own it from a trade I did with Tara Billinger a.k.a. nosleepjinx on DA. However, she is modeled after a Nidorina Pokedoll figure that I made. Female Nido Keychains
Link To Full Image
I had acquired these during the fall, or summer, in 2010 but was too lazy to get them up (more like I dislike using cameras, but I figured out I can scan these). Probably the most recent Nido product in years not including the cards. Man, the poor Pokemon. There's something off model about these, though, and I'll save that for the male set's description.
Male Nido Keychains
Link To Full Image
While I appreciate the new poses (finally), these keychains are rather off model for an official corporation's non stylized design. Remember, off model isn't always a bad thing, depending on the context, but these are more like out of proportion to be more precise. For example, Nidoran male's large head reappears, it's a bit too angular and the rest of his body seems puny. It just looks more like he's underfed than anything. Sheesh, they could have at least erred on the cute side (in other words, making them look more cuddly than necessary). Tokidoki products make a fortune on that concept.
Still, I'm not going to complain. They look cool anyway, and what with five generations of Pokemon (meaning more to choose from as well as more to neglect), we'll probably never see another new Nido product again (barring the cards). I'm not being absolutely literal about "never", but Nidos aren't that big in Japan (less so than anywhere else, at any rate).
Bandai Battle Museum Collectable - Nidoran Female
Link To Full Image
These figurines are ultra cool. If I'm not mistaken, I think these were originally gashapon, so that makes these pretty rare. But it's not that I'm concerned about. It's the fact that these may be the only Nido toys worth a darn in design. I believe these are circa 2000, but their design is heavily based on the old Sugimori designs, which should make every Nido fan jump up for joy. I'll go through each of them and point these design touches out. For starters, Nidoran here has thighs, as opposed to feet attached to nothing. The compromise is that the rest of her design is what the anime has standardized (two spikes, etc). I find her smile to be adorable. :3 Also, love the "leaping to the left" shot. So cute.
Bandai Battle Museum Collectable - Nidorina
Link To Full Image
Here's one you'll just love (AHAHAHAHA). This may very well be the only piece of official Nidorina merchandise worth having if she's one of your favorites, but can't be bothered into becoming a general collector of all things Nidorina. As far as I'm concerned, it's the only figurine based off of Sugimori's design. Specifically "Fat-Cute" Nidorina. That's all that needs to be said. As you can see, her face is rounder and smoother than anime based figurine (which is how it should be). I can't believe a gashapon toy turned out the be one of the best. The hearts are a really neat touch. She must be using Charm, and it's working, darn it. >:U And depending on the shot, like where it looks like she's looking over her shoulder? Augh! I can't stop gushing! Best pose, best toy, best everything. Nuff said. It makes me wonder if they were planning on doing more with Nidos back then, but no one took notice so they stopped trying. Because of her pose, I had to take more photos than necessary to get the right angles. Therefore, I made a gif using these and the unused photos to show her spinning around "on display". Full size and smaller. Hooray for stop motion animation! :D
Bandai Battle Museum Collectable - Nidoran Male

This one's pretty cute. Sleeping Nidoran looks like he's dreaming about something he doesn't like, though. I suppose because Nidoran has so many ear points (and back in those days, they didn't really have a consistant number per ear), they seemed to have just haphazardly dotted them around his ear. But that aside, it's a nice figurine to have. I'll admit, sleeping or not, I wish he'd've been given a different pose. It's a little to close to that generic overused one for comfort.
Bandai Battle Museum Collectable - Nidorino
Link To Full Image
Remember when Nidorino used to look menacing? If your first Pokemon experience started with the Game Boy Advance era and beyond, of course you don't. But this site's here to inform you with all kinds of source material that yes, Nidorino used to look like he could tear you a new one with great ease. And this figurine's based on it. Check out that look in his eyes first and foremost. Nidorino's pupils got bigger later on, but here he's not playing around. Notice that he also has six spikes instead of five, in two sets of three! But the most attention to detail is that the ears are asymmetric insofar as the points that rest on them, just like the old design. I'm just lovin' the craftsmanship they put into these little things. I don't place "fearsome Nidorino" over what we have today, but it's nice to have an official figure of it. Growing up, I did say that Anime Nidorino looked like a girl (kinda) compared to "the one in the book".

I bought these back when I visited the Pokemon Center in New York the first time, as evidenced by the copyright date. It only now occured to me that I should scan it. I regret not buying the mug or other pieces that had Nidoqueen on them. I know I was a Nido fan back then based off of the fact that I remember I was doing Poppistar Universe and Poke Legends around that time (it's sad that the only way I can recall when I liked a Pokemon was how I utilized it). But I was a kid with no money back then, too. Nidoqueen is playing a cute role, sure, but I get more nostalgic just looking at this overall than anything. I guess in my case, it carries a memory for me. Back when the Pokemon Center was good, and I could still (care to) keep track of the amount of Pokemon in existance. :P

They don't make enough Nidoqueen items! This is all I've been able to find so far. My favorite is the one in the middle with the entire evolutionary line. You can rearrange the figures' position on the base.
Nidoking Figures
Link To Full Image
Nidoking shows up more often, but is still pretty much limited to cards and figures. The figure on the right in the front row is from the most recent series, so that's nice at least. (He got a new pose, too!) The larger one is a snap together model with one of those wind up motors that makes it shuffle forward.
Nido Pins

The only one I'm missing is Nidoking, which only bothers me on a collector level (what little of a collector I am). Nidoran Female and Nidoqueen are both great for different reasons. The worst is clearly Nidorino. That's a shame.
Big Nidorina and Nidorino Dolls
Link To Full Image
I've had dreams about obtaining dolls like these, and now it's finally real! Large scale Nidorina and Nidorino plushies! The bad news is, these aren't official and are Asian bootlegs. The worse news is that The Pokemon Company won't likely do a thing about it to set things straight in the Nido Kingdom. Therefore, the good news is, if you don't care about how official something is, these aren't too hard to obtain so long as you're able to buy online, and they're cute and huggable so they have that going for them, too. It's a take what you can get situation, but I can't imagine a better Nidorino plushie, specifically.
Special Guest Appearance
Link To Full Image
Who let you in here? Go away and mingle with all the other Pokedolls I don't take pictures of. In all seriousness, though, Goodra's also a bootleg, and it's amusingly smaller than the Nidos. It isn't as cute seeing as the bootleggers goofed up giving it two side mouths, but for now it'll do. I do fully expect TPC to produce a Goodra plushie, though, and I guarantee it'll be cuter, and I will definitely need to add it to my collection.
Nidorino Alone
Link To Full Image
For a bootleg, this is well made, and I say that also owning other bootleg plushies including the entire 1st generation Eevee family. He's very accurate, too. Two ear points, five back spikes, three foreclaws and two hindclaws, I mean, these are details some academically trained fan artists don't even get right, I wouldn't have expected it from dubious guys mass producing fakes for money. The spot count is arbitrary, I never worry about that in that I'd assume it differs from Nido to Nido in that real world, but he has them. A quick glance at the newest Sugimori art for Nidorino, though, the spots are in the right place regardless of the number.
Spikes and a Profile
Link To Full Image
I wanted to get more of a picture to show off his back spikes. His big floppy ears are in the way, so you can't see the final one very well, nor his side spots. Trust me, they're there. I wanna pinch his cheeks, whatta cutie! Heh, never thought I'd say that about a Nidorino.
Triples
Link To Full Image
Alright, let's go down the checklist here... three ear points, three foreclaws, three hindclaws, three spots on each side according to latest Sugimori art, three back spikes, and a tai-three back spikes? Three back spikes? For Pete's sake, you bootleggers only had ONE job. As you can see, this is the downside to not having official products, though, for Nidorina, this is the second worst of it, and this is easy to ignore as long as you don't use it for a literal drawing reference. Not nearly as bad as two side mouths. Also, in fairness, I could actually buy this design. In fact, it would have really driven the point home that all the pointy ends of Nidorina comes in threes. In fact, I dare say it would've been clever intentional design, but we got four, and four is what we got.
Poison Baby IRL
Link To Full Image
Life imitates art, as the saying goes. Could you imagine what it would be like if Pokemon existed? I could see having these extra little personalities walking, or in this case, flopping around, kind of like a cross between domestic pets (for non-human qualities) and babies (for personalities, emotions, intellegence and all the other things that make Pokemon more 'mon' than beast at times). I don't think I could resist giving hugs to Nidos every day, even if that all too real poison is a threat. Nidorina being pudgy works to her huggable advantage and Nidorino, look at that doll again and tell me you wouldn't hug a real life version of that, especially if he gave you the eyes. ◕︵◕
Sit Up Straight!
Link To Full Image
My poor Nidorina is so stomach heavy that she can't sit up correctly, there's nothing flat to rest on. *sigh* Oh Nidorina, why you so fat? One thing I want to point out is Nidorina's second bootleg flaw, which until now you wouldn't have noticed. She never had any nostrils! Being the industrious individual that I am, I tended to this emergency right away (or a week later, not like she needs to breathe or anything) and sewed in two nostrils for her using embroidery floss. Not too bad! She actually looks a bit better straight on because you have something of a focal point now. I just wanted to mention that for anyone planning on purchasing. You'll have to sew your own nostrils or just leave her to forever be a mouth breather.

Give Me Hugs
Link To Full Image
If you'll excuse the Mega Man paperbacks, I had to prop Nidorino up with the closest, solid, not-too-intrusive thing I could get my hands on, and a stack of comics works well. Nidorino has the cutest face, my God, look at him! You know, I get that part of Nidorino's appeal is that he looks, or looked rather (back in ye olde days), kind of hectic. But if all of a sudden, henceforth this became the new design for Nidorino, I wouldn't be mad. It's on its way anyway, Nidorino no longer looks as threatening as he did in his early promo art, and Bulbasaur took a dip into the fountain of youth (or the fountain of cute, as it were. Perhaps both) itself, setting some precedent. This is also probably the closest AU Nidorino might look under an official lens, too, which says a little something about his softer design.
A Small Collection of Nidorina
Link To Full Image
One of these creatures has a different name than the rest. Can you guess who that is? A rather small potatoes collection of the Nidorina collectables I have, fan created and mass produced. I don't have access to all of my stuff, just what's on hand. For example, I'm missing official things like the more recent keychains and the Bandai Battle figure to the crafty things like the clay Mrs. Nidorina and the Nidorina pin I made for Creative Worlds waaaay way back. Let it never be said that I didn't make it clear who my favorite Pokemon is. As for what's next, hard to say given the limits of Nidorina merch that doesn't completely suck and isn't worth the shipping costs, but I could use a new figurine because the current one is very old and getting grimy. I also know I'm missing the evolutionary line set (which fortunately, AB has still been provided a pic of), but don't know where to obtain that, partially because I'm not making the effort to look. On the fan side, I would love newer character dolls. Larger and only kind of super deformed. I don't know who's gonna make these wonderful dolls but it's gotta happen before I end this site (heck I'd get the bootleggers on it if they were taking design submissions and didn't charge me for 1,000 ^^;). As for the current ones, the eyes on Nidorina and her mirror world counterpart have bleached to orange due to time, but if that's the worst of it, it's no big deal. Still precious things to have considering.

Another angle. Between the UFO catcher Nidoran and the special Pokemon Sewing Vulpix (and several other things I'm sure collectors can name), I feel like if it wasn't for the internet and an accessible global market, I'd be cheated. I can't imagine Pokemon Day (2/27/16 for the record) had anything more than Pikachus and starters/legendaries/Eev-eons to shill in the west, and Pokemoncenter.com? Forget about it. I guess it doesn't matter. I've not only collected my top three Pocket Mons, but probably the best (or only) versions they'll probably ever make. I've already completed the quest. Glad it happened in my lifetime. :P

I've already said that this Nidorino plushie looks more or less what AU!Nidorino would look like less stylized, but this Vulpix looks very much the way AU!Vulpix does, (super cute and childlike facial features) and essentially how I'd have Vulpix "Pixie" Anderson dolls made if that were something I could do. Well, at least now I've got a model to work from should that opportunity arise (again, like the Totodile Pokedoll is essentially the model for Nidorina's Totodile). Going off of that, let's assume it's them, sharing a photo shoot as they await the rest of the crew, hopefully arriving sometime before 2038 (Nakamura depends on how cute a Nidoqueen doll is made, and any Schneiders will definitely have to be custom).

Chibi Bubbles

So for someone who doesn't play any official Pokemon games anymore and doesn't pay a whole lot of attention to Nintendo's first party titles on top of that, you might wonder what games I get excited about. Jet Set Radio is one of those, and you can bet I was on top of that as soon as it hit the Xbox Live marketplace. The funny thing is that the overly cute or cartoony Nido tags fit in with the game's style (and Tokyo-To in the general sense). Looks like Chibi-Chibi crashed Sega's party, and brought her beloved bubbles with her. Is there any game she won't be in? If it has customizable features and I'm playing it, no. Ewww... I didn't realize the capture quality was so horrid. I promise I'll get better pics next time, probably when I make some new tags. You can bet there'll be a several more, seeing as the setting of the game fits some characters all too perfectly.
Rhythmic Pop'n Rey
Link To Full Image
Rhythmic Pop'n borrows a lot of music and aesthetics from Jet Set Radio, so it's only fair do sort of a mutual shoutout. Rey in particular borrows a lot from JSR, considering the skates, his stage BG and stage music. In fact, when I got to this area, Electric Tooth Brush started playing. Feels good, man. As a amusing anecdote, I've actually gotten so used to JSR music being in Rhythmic Pop'n that it sounds weird to hear it in the source game, now (Let Mom Sleep feels so out of place to me in JSR it's not even funny). Same thing happened with Crane Crazy. It's a sad day when you hear a tune and go "hey, it's that character's theme from that fan game!"
Nakamura-chan
Link To Full Image
Or just Nakamura, the "-chan" only emphasizes the chibiness, no one calls her that (I don't want another Nido-san, thanks). As with the others, I'll replace this picture with a higher quality version later. Given that JSR doesn't even pretend to take place outside of Japan, I felt a tag that reads "Nakamura" was extremely fitting, despite being spelled out in English/romanji. Nidoqueen's from Kyoto City, so using her feels at home here. It's funny, but not completely impossible, to think the GG's go around painting super deformed cartoon characters. Obviously the effort put into Nakamura-chan is greater than that of the others so far, and let me tell you, it's no simple task, but it's worth it to see this stuff in game.
Oni-Amie

Pokemon Christmas Cookies 2007

It's finally happened Bar-uh...Patrick. You've lost your mind~. Yeah, just about. For some reason we tend to bake way more cookies than necessary on Christmas. Even though we give most of them out, we're still stuck with cookies for days. Sometimes we make character cookies (2006 had Kirby, Cool Spot and Pac Man characters), and in 2007, it was Pokemon.
Chikorita, Pikachu, and Pichu came from a Pokemon bread cutter bought at the now non-existant Pokemon Center in NYC (which is now a place to shill more Mario or LoZ stuff), Nido and Vulpix patterns created by me. I spent way too much time on these, regretfully. And you know what? We never did make those Bomberman cookies in 2008.

This picture makes me all giddy. With the rain drops and big city surrounding the subject matter, it feels like a scene in a movie or something. The out of focus Times Square makes me nostalgic over nothing in particular, but I just love cities so much. It's no wonder I use this setting a lot.

Buckingham Fountain: Royals
Link To Full Image
It just kind of occured to me that as long as I've been living in Chicago, I don't really take any pictures of it (with or without Nidos). Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely city (when you ignore the people living in it), I just sort of take it for granted that I'll always be here. I do love the sights, though, Michigan Avenue is one of my favorite avenues. Anyway, decided to take some pics, so for starters...

Uh Oh: It's Lollapalooza
Link To Full Image
And then this happens. I just happened to be out here the day before Lollapalooza, totally forgot about it (something I do every year). These photos were taken on August 2, 2012 for reference. Anyway, seeing all the golf carts buzzing around and people getting set up was interesting to say the least. At least it made crossing the streets to get to this area a lot easier with the road blocks. Anyway, Nidorino's excited and it seems his priorities have changed completely.
Lollapalooza
Link To Full Image
And like a bunch of slack-jawed gawkers, the Nidos can't help but think about what's to come. All except Nidoqueen, she doesn't really care. She came for Chicago, afterall. The worst thing about taking these pictures is that people will easily, easily get in your way, so you have to take your shots fast. That's the problem with taking photos with toys as your subject. It took me forever to get this shot right.
Lollapalooza: Stage Set Up
Link To Full Image
It's a little lopsided, but there was nowhere to sit these young'ns. I heard some music blaring down the street, obviously to check the system, so naturally I walked over to the source like a sailor drawn to the song of the siren. That was my first mistake, it was WAY too loud. And not my type of music, either, which I guess made it worse. :P I'm not much of a follower of modern pop. Truth be told, the real reason I was out there was to hang out at jazz concert later that night. Kind of the Anti-Lolla, I guess. Anyway, the light display was neat.
Lollapalooza: A Different Stage
Link To Full Image
The absolute worst thing about me showing up the day before Lolla is that it was a distraction. Trying to get shots of the "event before the event" like some tourist cost me time in getting shots of the city itself. And yet I had to, because I would never get this close to Lollapalooza otherwise. I love that I can get stage shots without the crowd and the shouting of said crowd. It's kind of lame without the band, though, but you gotta take the good with the bad. The Moai with glasses on the banner more than makes up for the lack of a band. I guess you could say that I was at Lollapalloza before it was cool. A-ha. A-ha.
Lollapalooza: PlayStation Stage
Link To Full Image
This stage brought to you by PlayStation. That's certainly enough to get the attention of these young ones. I kind of wish it were a gaming stage, not that you'd be able to hear anything, seeing as it was right next to the other stage in the previous photo. "Oh yeah. Test 1 2. 1 2. Oh yeah. Oh Yeah."
Man Statue
Link To Full Image
A little north of the Buckingham Fountain is this fountain statue. I don't know the name of it, but on one side is a man, and on another is a woman. Now, I'm not one who's usually into sophomoric humor (unless it fits a character), but I couldn't see this statue as anything less than dodgy, especially where all the jets are splashing the guy. I would burst into laughter every time I looked directly at it. It's funnier in person, you get the full effect of the wrongness in question (along with the movement of the streams). Maybe that's why Nidoran and Nidorina are just staring at it. Nidoqueen has too much dignity. Actually, she'd just fall off the rail.
Woman Statue
Link To Full Image
The jets on this one are positioned a lot more tastefully. Doesn't make the male Nidos any less intrested. Clearly Nidoking isn't on the same level as Nidoqueen. And yet I wonder why these guys would care.

Just a southern look out onto Lake Michigan. It's time for the Nidos to go home (and time for me to head over to the concert), perhaps a little underwhelmed that so much time was spent at the Lollapalooza that Never Really Was. Oh well, there'll be another opportunity to tour Chicago soon enough.

Steep Streets
Link To Full Image
Some of San Francisco's famous slopes (it's a little hard to see from the angle I took the shot). All I can say is I would hate to live in this area. Just getting out of your garage would be a challenge.
Lombard Street
Link To Full Image
Lombard Street - Wow, this street is wacky. Just look at it. I really feel sorry for the people that live in those houses; tourists drive through constantly. I don't really see the appeal of driving through anyway, they were moving at 5 mph, tops. It's more fun to watch.
City View
Link To Full Image
Found a neat balcony area that looked out over part of the city. You can see the bay and Coit Tower in the background. And speaking of which...
Coit Tower
Link To Full Image
I bet I could've gotten a great shot of the skyline from the top of the tower, but there was a long wait to get to the observatory and I just didn't have time.

Well, there's honestly not much "skyline" in this shot. The trees and shrubs were too tall. I really like how this picture turned out anyway.
Golden Gate Bridge Crossing

And here we are on the other side of the bay, with San Francisco in the background. Nidoking wanted to pose in one of those optical illusion shots, to make it look like he was huge and attacking the bridge. It didn't come out, sadly.
