According to Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire, a Pokeblock changes the features of a Pokemon. I question the ethics of DNA manipulation (and the trainers who mindlessly endorse it), but I drew what I figured Nidorina might look like under moderate consumption of Pokeblocks for each category. That said, because of physical change by Pokeblock, no one is ever allowed to say Nidorina (or any other Pokemon) couldn't look better or worse, realistically (in a fantasy world).

I imagined what kind of treatment a Nidorina would get if she were owned by some bourgeoisie lady who calls her pets "Poopsie", or anything with the suffix "kins", and then some. As it seems, these pets never appear too keen on the idea. Flopsy doesn't like being called cute, or being dressed up like a baby's doll. The butterfly markings, however, work against her resistance.

The damage done seems irreversable, because more often than not, the Pokemon games tend to go off of the anime designs and not so much Sugimori's designs (except maybe the trainer games). When I first saw Nidorina in the first guidebook released, she definately looked like an accurate evolution to Nidoran, gaining some feminity along the way to Nidoqueen. When I saw her in the anime, she looked nothing the same, but I never questioned it, and like more people, took that as an accurate depiction. Here's the thing that I had finally realized years later. IT'S NOT. You'll find the Nidos often have strange anime conversions, most of all Nidorina and Nidorino. They look nothing like Sugimori's art, and yet, even the official artists still copy the anime models. You'll notice how Sugimori's artwork is typically better overall, with Pikachu, Jigglypuff and Jynx for examples.

Compare this with any image of Nidorina from the anime. First of all, her features are a lot more soft, round and tapered. You can see this in high quality sprites like the Advanced (3rd) generation games. She actually has a cuteness to her, like Bulbasaur. The anime, however, uses harder angular lines (which anime in general tends to do), gives her a larger chin, her eyes aren't as soft (looks meaner), and flattens her snout to make her look like a pug/pig. Seriously, how'd they get THAT from this concept art? Even the new Sugimori art holds up (except features are fixed, such as she isn't bloated, but her mouth did harden a bit).

It occured to me that I've been drawing Nidorina like this nearly the whole time, but making her appear like she wasn't very appealing vs. drawing the anime model straight up. Maybe because she wasn't in the show very much back then, but I did have a guidebook handy for reference. Now people tend to use the anime model as the a reference, which isn't even close, and that's why you get all these strange pictures of her looking like a goblin from hell instead of something closer to the Bulbasaur line. Get the word out that the anime model is NOT the correct one.

I drew this Nidorina while at work. I didn't have a reference, and it was the first time drawing Nidorina. Odd, because she's my favorite poison type. Anyway, I made a few mistakes, missing arm band, missing 3rd ear spike and I made her mouth too bulbasaur-ish. I've learned that when it comes to drawing cartoon characters, drawing anatomy based off of a figure in their likeness is MORE important than using life drawing (but life drawing's still important). This is because a figurine gives you actual depth and perspective, unlike a 2D picture. It's genius, and I'm surprised that as long as I had a Nidorina figure, I hadn't done so until I made this pic some years back. I recommend this practice for any cartoon character.

You'll note that Nidorina has a fat head, and is pretty rotund/chubby. I think this is important, as you'll note even with my characters, they're all pretty round in some way, even if they have a more slender body. I took the liberty with expressions, though, and femmed her up. It's not her fault everything uses the anime design, that's just the way the cards were played.

This is what happens when you use the wrong referencial image to market a character. Sugimori Nidorina is off dead somewhere while anime Nidorina is plastered all over. So, I did a caricature of the marketed design. I used the figurine as a reference again. I can assure you she's probably got a gruff, raspy voice that makes you cringe. And smoker's cough. I don't know why people take up smoking. People confuse me. Often. Too much.

What song is it? I haven't a clue. Who is he? you'd have to ask her. I added the blush and a whole other mysterious level was added to the picture.

I play flute myself so I wanted to draw a Nido playing one too. This was done without without a reference. This flute is actually custom made (or rather, drawn) for Nidorina. Having only three digits (and fairly stubby one at that) on each hand would make it hard for her to play a regular flute, so I simplified it a bit and made it easier for both of us. ;)

This is a variation of the original Snow Bunny pic I made years ago, which is one of the first pics in this gallery. The subject matter is the environment rather than Nidorina. I wanted to work on my environments, and it's a bit realistic which is good. I also want to do some reimaginings of selected artwork from earlier in the site's history, which I partially did with Tile Gallery. The imagery is based off of the forest I live next to, and when everything in the forest is glazed over with ice, it's really beautiful, and I suggested it'd make a great couple's walk. The white-grey sky actually helped add serenity. It was so nice I had to take pictures. I think I'll do it again when the conditions are right.

Who's that Pokemon? It's Nidoran Female! This picture was inspired by a similar rough sketch I did a little while ago, and it kinda took a life of its own! She doesn't have a name, but her backstory is probably something along the lines of, "Young Nidoran Female packs up and sets out on an adventure through the wide open wilderness!" or something like that. Why the Bell Collar? No reason. DO NOT QUESTION THE BELL COLLAR!

Oh, and those things behind her are um...cloud whisps...DO NOT QUESTION!.

Sure, many Pokemon aren't supposed to be easily identifiable, but the Nidos are curious creatures, if only because they seem like familiar animals at the beginning, then trail off into strange hybrids later. I've done a lot more research into this than necessary (which is actually to say I just discovered the obvious and found supporting evidence), so I can say with some confidence that at the least, I know what Nidoran is related to. The evolutions are like Wuzzles, if anyone's old enough to remember them. If not, do a quick search. Maybe not as extreme, though. I'll go into details about this later, but for what I know, I've looked into it enough to have an idea of what Nidos are NOT, despite claims otherwise, and for certain, they cannot be classified as a single animal (the bunny in Aqua Bunny is a generalized foundation, but it's not the absolute).

The Pokémon Yellow adventure continues as our intrepid party makes their way through Mt. Moon. Felix the Cat-erpie has evolved into a Butterfree, thus ruining his name pun but making him far more useful. Mowmow's gotten stronger as well, and her Double Kick attack allowed her to nearly defeat Brock single-handedly. Lemon's still a bit sour about being forced into a Pokémon Trainer's custody... and he doesn't seem to like Paras very much.

I was fighting nidos in PMD2, and I was thinking about how annoying it is whenever you get a status effect (particularly poison) in that game. So I made a really spiky nido, who is also quite mischievious looking! I like my "non-background" because I created a crayon looking effect. Yar!

Based on my own vague memory of Brer Rabbit tricking the Fox into throwing him into the briar patch, except that when I was drawing and coloring it I made it a girl Nidoran by mistake. This picture was very timely. A day after Crane Crazy was first completed, there was a Poke Doll contest at an oekaki. So, I entered with a Chibi-Chibi Nidoran Male doll. You know, when it really comes down to it, it's hard to dechipher who is cuter, the male or female Nidoran.

When Asusc and Fae were young, they belonged to an extremely spoiled little girl. The brother and sister were given to the girl as a gift (in fact, these two Nidoran were considered descended from royalty within the region, from a particular pair of Nidoking and Nidoqueen). However, the little girl grew tired of the well-trained twins; they would obey her every command, but that was the problem. They never let the girl get into trouble.

On one of the coldest nights in the year, the little girl refused to let the twins play with her anymore, shutting them outside the mansion walls. Asusc and Fae grew troubled as the days passed, and they were not able to reunite with the girl... On a particular quiet night, Asusc had had enough, if the little girl wanted a pokemon that misbehaved and pulled off naughty stunts, then he would give her that.

With much persuading to Fae, Asusc and his sister ventured into the city and began their legend... Within weeks, the local gang pokemon quickly learned that candy-colored powder-puffs were NOT to be harassed, for Asusc had laid waste a particular Arbok for attempt to bash his silken blue ribbon.

They soon became known within the city; two brother and sister Nidoran, with extraordinary abilities. Word of their strength spread like wildfire, the pokemon whispering that such small creatures could pack such a punch..."

Just an idea I thought up a while ago. If my character, Diddgery was a Pokemon, he'd either be a Buneary or a Nidoran. Buneary because he's small, brown, and fuzzy, and Nidoran because of the horn. And since this is a Nido fansite... yeah.

The colour in this one is closer to one of the variant colours in Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2. My lev. 100 Nidorino is named "Zigzag", which makes him a variant. My lev. 86 Nidorina (we're still training!) is named "Mollie", which makes her a variant as well. She's dark blue with blazing gold eyes. It's really cool!

The Nido families have rapidly disappeared across the world. Vast groups of them have been seen traveling overland-and vanishing into what seems to be a shimmering mirage that appears where a huge sun ray touches the earth. All kinds of Pokemon have followed their lead, and it is rumoured this portal leads to a Pokemon haven without a human in sight.

Legendaries are merely myths, gone and past, having vanished more than a thousand years ago. Still more rumours say this is where the legendaries disappeared to.... But one small Nidorino has been left behind, and with nobody to guide him he makes the long trek alone, with only a stone feather and his instincts to take him to 'Solaris-the Land of the Sun'.

Well, Nidorino's my favorite. I never really thought much of the Nidos until I got FireRed, though... In that game, I kept Pokemon in my team until they evolved. When that happened, I would deposit them and switch them for unevolved Pokemon so I could keep filling up my Pokedex. (I never deposited my Charizard, though.) With the stone evos, though, I kept leveling them up until they got all of their attacks. Beacause of this, Nidorino and Nidorina stayed in my team a loooong time. They eventually became part of my main team when they learned their last attacks and I evolved them. Nidorina was always stronger than Nidorino, but I liked him nonetheless. So, yeah, he's my favorite, mur. XD;

Iron-Rino is one of the mysterious string of bizzare evolutinary changes that alter pokemon geneology in strange, sometimes astounding ways. This evolutonary string was first seen in Eevee when it was entroduced to elemental stones and in a way, Iron-Rino is a relative of Eevee. In Iron-Rino's case he became a Steel/Poisen type. This, in theroy, happened because he had a very high iron food content, simmilar to Aron.

Unlike Aron however, Iron Rino is capable of more actively useing his metal composition, almost like the Terminator movie's liquid metal T-1000. He is still an organic creature so he cant melt himself into a puddle or anything that over the top and has some limits to his metal morphing ability. It depends on how much iron he has in his system. In actuality, the metal on his body is really a shell of sorts that surfaces on his skin as he consumes iron, so the more he eats the more he can use. He is capable of useing all steel type moves with Steel Wing being an obvious exception and Mirror Shot and Flash Cannon being his favorite moves and Meteor Mash is so called "Super Move".

He is also quite renforced pysically and is capable of impressive feats of super human strength, reaching close to a Machamp in power, surpriseing for his somewhat small size. Whats most impressive is his ability to take a beating unlike any other. To that effect, he actually enjoys leaping from high points to see how many flips ad tricks he can perform and then land on his feet. Enjoys Almonds, Spinich, danceing, wrestleing, and adventure!

Iron Rino describes himself as about as awesome as a pokemon can be and also quite the ladies man, which is true on both ends to some extent. He is rather selfless looking to help out whenever he gets a moment, he is polite, especally to girls, and is usual cool with whatever anyone wants to attempt. A nice guy over all, so much so that AU's infamous Blade Knight inc. is a close friend of his! One might describe him as a modern day knight in pokemon form. Like anyone though, he isnt perfect. He is rather harsh on himself so if he ever screws things up he often pouts for an hour or so, he tends to very openly state flaws in people, an example being "dang, thats a BIG ZIT youve got!" which often gets him into trouble.

He is also somewhat vain, as he admires himself far to much, particularlly when he is nice and shiney and will continously polish himself in his free time. Oh and he has a major crush on Charlotte but is too chicken to admit it, especally when he found she has a crush on Ness. oh whatever will he do? STAY TUNED TO FIND OUT!
