Let's Talk Pokemon: Nidoqueen
The Let's Talk Pokemon series is a source for more in depth information about the Nidos that you can find in the games. I explain why it's referred to as "Let's Talk Pokemon" on Nidoran Female and Nidorina's page. You can check that out if you're curious.
Overview
Nidoqueen is bulky, part reptile - part mammal Pokemon. She may still have lagomorphic qualities. She retains large floppy ears, but gains barb like scales, replacing what ever type of hair found on earlier evolutions such as Nidoran Female. These scales can stand on end when excited. Her lower jaw, waist, and chest plates have a cream like color compared to the rest of her body. Nidoqueen's body is sturdy enough to send foes flying with a harsh tackle. She uses her bulk to seal off the entrance to her burrow, in order to protect her young. Nidoqueen will also risk her own life for the protection of her children.

In Other Media:
The Pokemon Anime
Gary Oak is seen with his Nidoqueen in a number of episodes, albeit her appearances are brief. However, this does make Nidoqueen one of the few Nidos to ever be owned by a major supporting character.
A more notorious appearance of Nidoqueen comes in the form of Copy Nidoqueen, from "Mewtwo Strikes Back" and "Mewtwo Returns". Copy Nidoqueen was cloned from the original Nidoqueen owned by Fergus. What makes Copy Nidoqueen noticable, however, is the fact that she's not only able to breed, but gives birth to more copies (in the form of baby Nidoqueen) instead of Nidoran.
Pokemon Adventures (Pokemon Special) Manga
Green (Blue in Pokemon Special) had a female Nidoran named Nidory (Nido-chan (ニドちゃん) in Pokemon Special) who would eventually fully evolve into a Nidoqueen.
Yamashita 4 Koma Manga
Nidoqueen assumes a maternal role in each of her appearances. She tends to fly off the handle, or perhaps take things too far without much provocation. Her overreactions are played for laughs, making everyone else appear sane in comparison. She only has one appearance with Nidoking so far.
Name Origin
Information comes from the Japanese Wikipedia:
Nido, written in katakana as ニド, comes from the english word needle (in Japanese, ニードル ). Queen, of course, needs no explanation.

Miscellany
Nidorina and Nidoqueen cannot breed. Or can they? Afterall, the games aren't exactly known for their consistancy, and often contradict themselves in other ways within one generation's time alone.
